Awakaponga Round 1

Today at Awakaponga, Trent Duggan (pictured) made everyone else look like amateurs!

In his second race, everything just slotted into place.  He got the holeshot by two bike lengths,  then  kept going and never fell off.

With a display of speed and bike control plus perhaps a touch of luck, he won the race by miles - well, a quarter of the track at least !  It was awesome.

Trent now shares the series lead in his 85cc A grade class with Chris Merriman who won the first race and came 2nd in race 2. The battle lines are drawn.

The weather wasn't exactly kind for the first round of the Awakaponga series. Initially, however, it seemed okay but a shower of rain came through and did some damage. The track became a real mudfest -sloshy and boggy - and the club reduced the races per class to two.

The lower than usual rider turnout was no doubt because of the forecast but classes were grouped  with A and B grades mixed and Vets and 125s sceaming around together. Those that turned up (some from as far away as Gisborne) and stayed the distance will have a definite points advantage heading into the next round; Danny Merriman, for example, had two good wins.

Brake pads were the main casualty. Chris Merriman had new ones  but they were gone after the first race.  "That's the quickest I've ever seen them go," says Neil, his dad, who fortunately had some spares.

As one pit crew dad stated "Now it's finished, it was a good day !"

Results will be on the club website soon.
