A gumboots and snorkel day at the first day of the MX Junior Nationals. The King Country Club had put in a fantastic job with the track but the weather didn’t come to the party. Day one was rained off after the practice/qualifying rounds and just 2 races. Good qualifying times were produced in heavy clay, really wet, difficult conditions by several local BOP riders with top 10s from Kristian Crane (3rd), Kyan Loomans (3rd), Madoc Dixon (7th), Kydd Catley (8th), Jovhann Phillips (3rd), Tyler Steiner (4th) and Josh Tredinnick (10th) in their various classes.

Brad Jeffrey finished 12th in race 1 of the 12-14 Years 125cc class, a race in which 5 riders DNFed.  Te Puke’s Tyler Steiner won the only other race, the 14-16 Years 250 class, ahead of Ben Broad (Ngatea) and Trent Collins (Cambridge). Jovhann Phillips got a good start, was 3rd into the first corner but found himself high siding over the top of his bike courtesy of another rider having difficulty slowing down.  The result:  a DNF before the 3rd corner as his cam cover had been punched into the engine by a handlebar. The rest of the day was spent transferring suspension etc. etc. over to a plan B bike ready for tomorrow.

Good luck for tomorrow.  Fingers crossed for an improvement in tomorrow’s weather.
