There's cross country and MX action a  plenty in the Bay this weekend.  Saturday 9th is Round 1 of the famous Greg Power organized Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series and Sunday 10th is Round 1 of the Tauranga Motorcycle Club's  delayed Spring MX Series.

GNCC Te Puke : Saturday 9th October

The GNCC is being held on Murray Jensen's Te Puke property.  Murray reckons it's going to be "real good, an awesome ride".  "I've put in some challenging bits for the experts', he says, " but in general it's a good mix of farmland, bull-dozed tracks and pine trees. Most people enjoyed it last year but the track is running in reverse this time so the farmland will be before the trees."

There will of course be an optional "Murray specialty" section with logs etc - think Endurocross - however with a lot of novice and intermediate riders suffering from landlubber's cabin fever because of the constant winter rain, there should be a good turnout and a great event.

Tauranga Spring MX Series: Sunday 10th October

Tauranga, like most clubs, has been affected by cancellations due to bad weather but the Spring Series finally gets underway at Maddix Park on Sunday. Tauranga is a grass roots club and offers a great opportunity to riders of all ages to get into racing in a friendly and supportive environment. Riders are grouped according to bike size and, for the minis and the vets, according to age. There are classes for novice riders also.  The women's novice class has proved very popular in the past as more and more women join the rest of the family for some fun in the dirt.

For more information go to the club website www.taurangamcc.co.nz or contact club president Craig Jeffrey on 021 870 117.
