Gabby's aiming for the top

and heading for Oz

Gabrielle Gundry, usually known as Gabby, is a 17 year old trials rider. Last year she was the Junior women’s rep in the Oceania Cup winning NZ team that included Australasian trials champion Jake Whitaker.  Gabby comes from a trials family and rides most weekends in competitions around the country with her brother, father and grandfather. She is usually the lone female in the Clubman’s grade but regularly finishes in the top 3 beating riders with many more years experience. She is a young woman with great potential.

This year Gabby has been invited back to Australia to compete in the Australian Women’s Cup event to be held in Canberra on the 10th of July 2011 with the added bonus of a 3 day FIM training camp in Sydney the following week.

The training camp is with the current and 10 times world trials champion, Laia Sanz from Spain, an absolute legend and probably the most consummate female off road rider in the world. Apart from her unequalled trials exploits, Laia has participated in the 2010 Women’s Enduro World Champs achieving a very respectable third place after only participating in four of the six races. In 2011 she also competed in her first ever Dakar Rally, winning the women’s section and finishing an astonishing 39th overall.

Obviously, Gabby really wants to get to Oz to work with Laia. She has some money saved, but this opportunity has arisen a little out of the blue so she is frantically fundraising the $2,000 she needs for the flights, entries, bike hire, insurance etc.

If you can help in any way – jobs, ideas, funds… email [email protected].  It would be much appreciated.
