Helicopter @ Maddix

...but no evacuation needed...

The last time a helicopter landed at Maddix, it was at the sign-on house and the surrounding fence had to be taken down so that former national champion Peter Ploen could be airlifted out with concussion and a broken collarbone. The track site itself was too dusty.

This Sunday’s helicopter visit was slightly different. The helicopter landed and took off from the track but it wasn’t the full size version. MX enthusiast, Amron Coory, turned up with his remote controlled helicopter fitted out with a high tech camera to do some aerial photography. The camera can do still shots and video sequences but it involves a team effort with one person “driving” the helicopter and another operating the camera via links to a laptop.  If you’re interested in some shots from above, contact Amron at [email protected] .

There must have been something in the air because Amron wasn’t the only photographer up at the track.

Tyron Noble has a passion for action sports; we’ve seen him on the MX track and he’s also a big fan of skate-boarding. He has just finished a degree in computer graphics at Waikato University, (a course he strongly recommends, by the way), and was up at Maddix taking photos for a portfolio he’s putting together. Tyron is hoping for a career in action sport specializing in photography and illustration. If you are wanting professional pics, contact Tyron at [email protected] .

Both Tyron and Amron are planning to be at Maddix for the GNCC on December 10th.
