Following the success of the School MX that they organized earlier in the year, Hauraki Plains College decided to slot in one more event which, although lightly lower in numbers, - school camp clashes and school over mindsets claimed a few riders,  -was an equally great success.

Nathan Tucker was one of three Waihi College competitors all in the beginner grade.  He is number 009 pictured above with fellow teammates Jayden Ngaru #084 and Clark Dudding #001.  For Nathan, the day was his first experience in an MX race.  He had an absolute ball and was thrilled with his third place trophy in the 125-250cc class. The drop off was only daunting for his watching dad.

Harrison Still from Bethlehem College was also “happy as” with his results.  He loved the track and came home with a trophy for  third place in the Beginners 85cc class.

His brother Seb Still, riding for Tauranga Boys’ is full of prise for the day as well.  “It was awesome”, he says. “The track was mean but I had bike problems in race one.  I broke my gear lever so had a DNF”. Fortunately for Seb, his dad borrowed a lever from another rider whose bike had blown up.  Seb came 12th in race 2 and 10th in race 3 to finish 13th overall in the Intermediate 125cc class.

Evan Hawkless also rode for Tauranga Boys’ but in the really challenging Pro 125 class. “The track was a bit muddy at the start for practice”, he reports, “but the track changes really quick.  A couple of hours later it was really dry and hard.  I had to change my tyres.  I had new ones on for the mud but my other ones on for the hard”.  Evan had 9/9/11 finishes for 8th overall.

Garth Amrein from Katikati College took home the 3rd place trophy in the same Pro 125 class.

Word is that the next School MX is scheduled for April 2012 at the Huntly track. Pencil it in.
