School MX

The honours in the school MX events so far this year have been rotating around a number of schools.  This time Cambridge, Waiuku and the Tauranga Boys College made the podium, in that order, with Whakatane's Trident and Te Puke High Schools taking 4th and 5th, Kings College finishing 6th and Mount College and Bethlem College coming 7th and 8th.

As per the norm there were high points and low.

On the high side, Trent Collins anchored his school to the win with a clean sweep in the 13-16 85cc class; as expected, Te Puke High School's Tyler Steiner did the same in the 15-18 125cc class;  Jovhann Phillips "killed them all by miles", acccording to his Tauranga Boys fellow riders, and made a clean sweep of the 15-18 250cc class; and Josh Tredinnick, who's definitely moved up a notch and is getting really quick, won 2 of his 3 races in the 13-14 years 125cc class.

Brad Cameron's speed is also on the upward curve and his 3rd place in the 13-14 years class was a major boost for the small Mt College team. Hard on his heels and just two points behind came Connor Hawkless on his brand new RMZ250. "Everything's different but I like the 4 stroke much better" says Connor.

Chris Merriman was on the podium with a very respectable 3rd place in the 13-16 85cc class, as was Kyan Loomans in the Novice 85cc who finished just 3 points ahead of Dylan Tredinnick.

In the novice classes as well, there were good rides from many local lads with a particular mention for Jordan Hutchinson who came 8th in his first race for Tauranga Boys'. In the Women's class Nadia Salvidge exceled herself to finish 2nd while Rauqel Leopold ended the day in 7th.

On the low side there was Jason Smith who arrived late because of an exam,  so was put into a novice class but, when he came 2nd in that, was transferred into the expert 15-18 years 125cc. A DNF following a fall in his last race (no injuries fortunately) meant his overall points were quite low.

The bad luck of the day award must go, however, to Reece Garrett.  In the first race he fell off and broke his helmet but in the third his foot got jammed between the spokes and the disc brake (!) and had to take his foot out of the boot to detach himself.
