Trials Observers Wanted Observers are urgently needed for Rounds 3 and 4 of the North Island Trials Champs which are being organized by the Tauranga Trials Group on Saturday April 2nd in the Waihi area and just outside Te Puke on the Sunday 3rd April 2011.

All you need is eyes. Experienced observers tell you what to look out for, which coloured markers mean what and how to mark the rider’s card.

You will also get the chance to see NZ’s absolute top trials riders in action . Jake Whitacker, the current NZ and Australian Champ plus NZ runner-up, Carl Clark will be riding in the Expert category in their last NZ trials event before they head north to compete on the European trials circuit for the rest of the year.

However, don't forget we have some of the best trials riders in the country. At the first 2 rounds of the North Island National Trials Champs held in Wellington over Waitangi weekend, BOP riders won every grade except the Expert category. John Haines from Rotorua won the Intermediate with Tauranga riders Jacob Gundry (Juniors), Gaby Gundry (Clubmans), Warrick Merriman (Presidents) and Phillip Shilton (A Grade) also topping the podium.  They are all highly motivated to maintain their leads in the 8 round series.

The atmosphere is competitive but friendly and, there’s a big bonus, trials riders are one of the few groups that have a creed of courtesy which means they thank each observer on their last round.  You will have a good feeling of being appreciated.

If you can help out or know someone that can, please contact Nigel Shilton on 075761692 or by email to [email protected] . Observers are supplied with a slap up lunch and a small contribution towards travelling costs to either Waihi or Te Puke.

The photo above shows one of the sections that the riders will encounter during the Waihi trial. It shows the rocky river section – can you spot the flag markers? - which probably looks even more challenging than this at the moment as the rain is pouring down. The property has a number of interesting side streams and banks in the bush so there will be a variety of tests for the riders including the famous “log section” pictured below.

BOP Trials Champs Round 1 Results:

Local trials riders got in some good training for these North Island Champs last weekend when the Tauranga Trials Group held the first round of the Bay of Plenty Champs at the Pattie property in Williams Road. There were clay hill climbs under trees, quite big logs to ride over and tree roots in the bush - all great practice material - and a fun and successful day was had by all.

Thanks to Brett Pattie for the use of the land and the moving out of the livestock. Also to Kevin and Team Gundry & Cory Davies for the Saturday input and set up.

Click here for the results and, once again, for the reminder about marking the cards!
