MX Nationals Round 2  Patetonga

Great track, great weather and a great day’s racing.  Some results and spectator comments from round 2 :

MX1:  1st  Ben Townley, 2nd Josh Coppins, 3rd Cody Cooper, 4th Michael Phillips, 5th Hamish Dobbyn, 6th Justin McDonald, 7th Brad Groombridge, 8th Mason Phillips, 9th Matt Hunt, 10th Nick Saunders, 11th Jesse Donnelly, 12th Luke Temple.

Ben Townley: His speed is unbelievable.  Outright impressive.  Out of sight, in the lead, with a huge gap. (Check out the video clip to see just how far.)

Josh Coppins: A picture of “grizzled” consistency.

Cody Cooper : Had disastrous starts -18th back in race 2! Rode the wheels off his Suzuki to get on the podium.

Unusual Happening: A pall of black smoke signalled the spot where a KTM 450 crashed off the sky jump and started burning! Video clip here. It is said that that Tom Hughes, the rider, endo'd and the fuel cap came off. The electric starter was firing and up it went.

MX2:  1st Darryll King, 2nd Scott Colomb, 3rd Peter Broxholme, 4th Jayden Jessup, 5th Ethan Martens, 6th Shaun Fogarty, 7th Darryl Hurley, 8th Kayne Lamont, 9th Rhys Carter, 10th Damien King, 11th Jesse Wiki, 12th Dion Picard, 13th Keiran Leigh, 14th John Phillips, 15th Kent Morley, 16th Peter Smit, 17th Campbell King, 25th Roydon White.

Darryll King: Just wore them down, wore the other riders down, at his age and, to rub salt into the wound, riding a 2 stroke! Extended thanks to his new girlfriend.

Peter Broxholme:  Broxy rode really well, with a win in race 1 and a 2nd in race 3 but with an  unfortunate off sandwiched in the middle.

Great to see these perennials still out there doing it but when are the “future champions” going to crank it up a notch a bit?

MX3:  1st Tony Cooksley, 2nd Matt Combe, 3rd Logan Comer, 4th Brendon White 5th Hamish McCulloch, 6th Joel Wanhill.

National 125s:  1st Cameron Vaughn, 2nd Micah McGoldrick, 3rd Garth Amrein, 4th Eli Manson, 5th Callum May, 6th Cameron Negus 7th Hadleigh Knight, 8th Nathan Clare, 9th Logan Blackburn, 10th Ryan Thomas.

Under 21  125s:  1st Cameron Vaughn, 2nd Micah McGoldrick, 3rd Garth Amrein, 4th Callum May, 5th Nathan Clare, 6th Ryan Thomas 7th Hadleigh Knight, 8th Logan Blackburn.

Cameron Vaughn: He has upped his game in the last 12 months. He and Micah McGoldrick were well out front.

Garth Amrein: Apart from one bad start in race 3, Garth, from Katikati, raced very competitively and well.

Logan Blackburn:  An extremely disappointing bike problem DNF in race 1 whilst running 3rd and looking good. Replacement bike didn’t have the same edge.  But, as Logan says "Had a bit of bad luck, but hey, it happens in motocross, that's what its all about!"

MX3:  1st Tony Cooksley, 2nd Matt Combe, 3rd Logan Comer, 4th Brendon White 5th Hamish McCulloch, 6th Joel Wanhill.
