North Island Champs Rounds 3 &4 Manawatu

Tauranga riders were highly successful at the recent Manawatu rounds of the North Island Trials Champs. The Gundreys topped two podiums with Kevin’s 1st place on day 1 and 3rd on day 2 giving him first overall in the Intermediate class while son Jacob won the A grade class with a 2nd and a 1st.

Francis Sydenham (pictured below) was competing, riding an old twin shock bike in the clubmans class and Nigel (above) and daughter Lisa (at left) Shilton also made the trip down with Lisa  returning absolutely stoked with her best ever result from a trials  event.

It was a two day event. Day 1 had natural creeky sections, pine trees and some loose rock in a valley. Day 2 was in a quarry in the Woodville area so rocks and more rocks and more rocks and no water. There was a good contrast between the two days.

John Hayne was pipped by his rival and fellow NZ team member Matt Foster in the Expert class.  Both riders plus Jacob Gundry will be getting in some practice with the new non-stop rule for trials in readiness for overseas competition later in the year.
