Trials

"It was fantastic until it rained," says Warwick Merriman, "and then it got even better!"

Warwick was one of over 30 riders who turned out for the very successful round 3 of the BOP Trials Champs that was held in the Te Puke area on the weekend. The Te Puke team led by Paul McLeod set out the sections over a circuit that was a little longer than usual.

The riders were geared up for bad weather, the score cards were all waterproof so in true trials fashion, when the heavens opened, they carried on regardless. The rain did make a couple of sections more challenging and quite tricky - the hill climb, for example - but other sections were in the river so it was more just a question of putting up with water dribbling down the back of necks.

Thanks to Paul and Team Te Puke who cut out some new sections and made the new loop.  Thanks also to the land owner.

Tokoroa

Lee Ormsby was one of a handful of local riders who crossed to Tokoroa for round 4 of the South Waikato Club series in Tokoroa. Unfortunately at 9am the rain started and turned the place into a bit of a mud hole.  Lee had crashed on his mountain bike on the Saturday so found the landings after the jumps very painful on his wrists. He managed 3rd in the 13-16 years 85cc class.  Because of the small numbers, all the age group 85s were in together and according to Lee's dad, Kyle, it was the 8-10 year olds who were out in front at the beginning but the older boys soon pulled them in.  A good wake up call on the importance of starts. Lee was also 3rd on his 85 in the 12-16 years 125cc class.

Garth Amrein finished on equal points with Isaak Moore in the same 125cc class - each had a 1st and a 2nd place - but Garth was second on countback.  Garth did win, however, the Senior Open race.

Brendon and Roydon White took first and third respectively in the Senior A class.  Trent Duggan rode well in the non-club member category.  Full results are on www.mylaps.com .

The weather curtailed the event with most classes limited to 2 races.  The 5th and penultimate round at Tokoroa is scheduled for September 4th.

Maize Paddock

About 80 riders had a great day at the second Tauranga Motorcycle Club Maize Fun Day at Welcome Bay Road on Sunday. Maize paddock days are like Girl Guide biscuits. They are only around for a short period of time each year, so enjoy them while you can.
