How do bikes get to Lae - We have organised free seafreight from TGA & AKL to Lae, this will take approx 3 weeks. A location for empty 20’ Containers for packing needs to be found, if anyone can assist please advise. Return of bikes will take 4 weeks

What type of event is Ride the Rivers –This will be a hard 125km track each day (reverse course second day) expected to take 6 hours. Start at point A, Finish at Point B. The track will be GPS mapped and marked fully. There will be a lot of rocks, a lot of water, a lot of single trail, some high speed 4WD Tracks, some good hill climbs and possibly a lot of mud.

Are there any rules / separate classes – We are a very small Club with  just 20 members and this is our way of showcasing beautiful PNG to overseas visitors, so rules will be minimal, but enough to ensure that no disputes or problems arise, and there will be several classes. We will be happy to take guidance from people who have way more experience than us. The seriously good riders will also do a longer course that the novices, the choice will be yours.

Is Trail Riding also part of the Event – Absolutely. We are hosting a series of 1 & 2 day trail rides in the preceding week  (5 days riding in total) followed by the Enduro over two days. This will allow riders to experience the Highlands of PNG and see some of the culture & peoples of PNG. We will be staying out of Lae for probably 2-3 nights in total spread over 6 days. Traditional singsing & dancing groups will entertain the visitors; we will visit the Mud men of Asaro and experience riding at sea level and 9500 ft the same day

Will there be local riders –While we have a small number of bikes in the country there are several very accomplished riders

Free accommodation has been mentioned – Yes, Riders from Morobe Motorcycle Club will billet the visiting riders to keep costs down and to also make it a more memorable time. We want this to be a fun event and one that people will come back to

What weather conditions will we encounter – Humidity at 98%, daytime temps of 38 degrees, nightime temps varying from 13 to 28 degrees depending on location and a variety of insects guaranteed to bite, scratch and annoy the hell out of you. Did I mention it’s hot?

What other activities can riders have a go at – Game fishing, Diving, Surfing, Golf, sightseeing – we will schedule rest days so that these activities can be done. PNG was a major part of the WW2 Pacific Battles and many areas worthy of a visit

What is entry Fee – NZD$250 per head – this will cover the significant costs that are not covered by our sponsor (cartage / port costs in both nz & png). Transport and fuel for bikes will be provided

What Insurance will I need – Normal Travel insurance and insurance related to the sometimes dangerous sport of bike riding. If you break a bone you will not want to stay long in local hospitals. Ambulance / chopper etc available for race days – injuries on trail rides you will need to harden up and ride out.

What do I need to bring – All spares, fuel & Oil (fuel cans especially if 2 stroke), riding gear, heavy duty tubes are a must

What is the prizemoney – Prizemoney will total AUD$25,000.

Where do I send entries? To myself below, stating age, bike, riding ability, any suggestions or questions. Entries Close 15th Jan 2012
