Saturday 2nd November:  It's been an awesome event with a mixed bag of results so far. The track has proved rather a one lane track with the holeshot winner having the best chance of a chequered flag. However, riders of all levels have been regularly “dropping it”, with results a little erratic and no-one consistent, except for Brodie Connolly.  Nevertheless, there are three local riders with real podium potential.

Shelby Catley is following up her Taupo success with a fresh onslaught in the 7-11 Trail class. Her 2 wins and a 2nd give her first place overall with 2 races to go.

Wade Meredith (5/3/2) is in 2nd place in the 6-8 Years 50cc class, 1 point ahead of Jack Symon who deprived him of the title at last week’s Taupo Extravaganza but 14 points behind class leader Nicholas Westgate. Tyler Wiremu is in 12th place and Jakob Bourne is in 15th.

Tyler had a shocker; spent 2 laps on the ground in race 1, had taped wrapped around his wheel in race 2 and then crashed at the start of race 3.  On the positive side, in race 3, from 29th and a lap back, he pulled on the throttle and got himself back to 13th.

Race 1 appears to have been the problem for both the Tauranga and the ex-Tauranga riders, with conditions a little slippery from the morning track watering.

A large field of competitors meant qualifying races for the 9-11  Years 65cc class. In group A, Alex Fraser-Brown qualified 8th but younger brother Luke was 23rd so moved to the support class where he is in 12th position.  In group B, Sam Meredith qualified 9th and Sam Cooper 15th.

On the race front, Brodie Connolly seems in control of the class with 3 wins. Sam Meredith (5/7/2) has taken a couple of races to show what he’s made of but is in 2nd place overall heading into day 2.  Alex Fraser-Brown lies in 18th place and Sam Cooper in 24th. Sam is pleased that he’s been improving his placings with each race and Alex has “some skin missing” but is ready to go for tomorrow.

The track is on the long side – about 2min per lap – so there are quite a number of tired riders out there tonight. Good luck to them all for day 2.
