There were some ups and downs on the points boards during today’s racing at the Barrett Road track in New Plymouth.  After the horror weather predictions of the night before, the day was ridiculously good and frighteningly fine.

Jovhann Phillips  looked much more comfortable, had a much better day and is stoked with his 6th place in the sole race of the 12-14 125cc class today. He is now 10th overall but will have to work hard tomorrow to maintain/slash improve his position.

Tyler Steiner had a less successful race. A last-bike-away start followed by a front sprocket that started shearing the teeth off was the bad news.  The good news is he salvaged 10th place and is 5th on the board with only 2 points separating him from 3rd placed Jayden Turnwald. Josiah Natke and Ben Broad have maintained their consistent 1st and 2nd positions.

The 125cc 15-16 Year age group  had two races today. The first race didn’t start so well for the still very sore and very white Aaron Wiltshier. His forks had been shortened up slightly so the bike turned better into corners but bad luck hit right on the gate. Another rider dropped his bike in front of Aaron making Aaron drop his too.  When he got going though, he really flew and worked his way back to 4th.  In the second race, Aaron again showed his metal.  He was gone from the first corner and no-one saw him from there. His lap times were amongst the top fastest of the day – Aaron was “moonbeams ahead “says one spectator. This win moved him up to 3rd overall, just one point behind second placed Nathan Henderson. Cohen Chase’s 2nd place today kept him in first place overall. Dylan Walsh lost position when he got stuck in one of the big ruts and couldn’t get out. He is now in 5th after 3 races.  Seb Still is in this very hard class but he’s consistent and lying 16th overall.

The 14-16 Year 250cc riders had a shuffle around behind overall leader Hadleigh Knight. Nathan Henderson’s two 3rds kept him in second place overall but Billy Frank with a win in race 3 displaced Kairyn King and Matt Kenyon. Matt’s day didn’t go that well. He winded himself in a reasonable crash in race 1 but came back for 5th..  A shocking "last off the line" start in race 2 meant he had to work his way back once again, this time to 6th place. He is now in 5th place overall but the points are all pretty close.

The 65cc Demo class saw the return of Brodie Connelly who won both the day’s races. Isaac Broad had two seconds and Trent Duggan two thirds so Isaac now has a one point lead over Trent heading into the final day and the last two races. Alex Fraser-Brown finished 8th in one of the races and remains in 11th position.

Isaac also had the upper hand when the Broad/Duggan rivalry transferred to the 11-12 Year 85cc class. The overall gap has narrowed with Trent 26th overall and Isaac 27th.  Maximus Purvis continues to clean sweep the class with Trent Collins a consistent second.

A three day event with long races means there are a lot of rather tired riders out there. Tomorrow, Sunday, is crunch day when the championships are decided. Who is going to last the distance ?

Good luck to you all.
