Paul Edwards (pictured) is on site setting up for today's Round the Trees event organized by the Whangamata Dirt Riders Club. Weather conditions may have plagued round 1 but it's all looking good to go for the Good Friday event.

In fact the sun is shining, the sky is blue, there's been no rain for a week and Paul, Mike and the team have done a great job grooming the tracks through the trees, setting up the optional enduro section and generally making sure all you riders will have a fantastic day. Riders sign on on the day.  Spectators are welcome.

The Whangamata Dirt Riders Club was set up in 2007. The Club has their own venue  about 5km south of Whangamata with the track going through pruned bush areas as well as land with growing 6-7 year old pines.  The bush tracks are a sought after alternative to flat grass cross country venues.  They are open for selected events and trail rides run by the Whangamata Dirt Riders committee.

This inaugural Round the Trees Series is made up of 3 rounds.  Round 1 was at Whangamata, round 2 is at Maddix and the final round will return again to Whangamata. The Club is hoping the event will become a permanent fixture on the off-roading calender.

The Round the Trees series caters for all classes - first timers, kids, women, wets and pros.  No MNZ licence is required.

Sign on is from 8am. The Junior and Women's race begins at 9.30 am and the Seniors at 12 midday.   For full details on the event click here.
