NZ Mini Nationals

The West Coast of the South Island is all set to host the NZ Mini Nationals on Waipuna Station at Ikamatua this weekend.

Westland Motorcycle Club secretary, Tracey O’Connor, says the club is rapt with the entry response. “Huntly had 160 riders last year and we knew we’d get lower numbers, just because of where we are”, she says, “but we have 120 entries with 60 from the North Island and even one from Australia! The weather has cleared and is looking good, the track is good and with great racing and lots of giveaways and spot prizes plus some southern hospitality, it’ll be a fantastic weekend”.

The track (pictured above) is on natural terrain over three terraces and has been groomed up for the occasion. The club has built up the berms and removed some of the rocks and overlaid with a sandy silt to make the track more all-weather usable.

There appear to be only 3 Bay of Plenty riders competing- Jacob Hunt in the 6-8 Years 50cc, Harrison Moore in the 9-11 Years 65cc and Bradley Jeffrey in the 7-11 Years trail class.

Jacob is really looking forward to the event. We caught up with him on the Interisland ferry where he was thrashing his Dad in an online computer game.  Let’s hope the “thrashings”  continue and he brings home another NZ title.
