Labour Weekend Extravaganza Taupo 20 October 2012
Awesome weather, great day with no bike trouble.
Tyler was certainly not sick this week and he was chomping at the bit to get on his bike as he hadn't touched it since the mini nats as he'd been recovering from bronchitis.
Tyler qualified 2nd for the day after a casual start in the cold.
Race 1 Tyler got shut down at the start when the bike beside him started crossed up pushing him over behind most of the pack. He pushed hard to get through the pack into 2nd where he played follow the leader right on the tail of first place.
Race 2 Tyler managed a good start getting hole shot and he rode like a man possessed so we had to keep waving at him to slow down as mum was having another baby.
Race 3 He told us that his bike was too easy so he wanted to go fast which he did and finished 14 secs in front of 2nd place.
Considering he set the fastest lap for the mini intro's in Taupo this year, everybody was commenting on how different the mini nats could have been had he turned up like this! but thats racing!!
Will likely attend the Auckland champs and Summercross.
Race Report: Mini MX Nationals 7th October 2012 Wellington
Tyler gained a hard earned a 5th in the 4-7 50cc Mx class.
Tyler started the weekend with Bronchialitus, very little sleep after coughing and keeping Scotty Bar-Smith up all night!
Day 1 saw Tyler get 4th for Qualifying behind the local riders.
Race 1 had Tyler feeling a little too eager as he was pushing his bike to the limit trying to get past 1st and 2nd which unfortunately resulted in 5 crashes and Tyler crossing the finish line in 10th place.
Race 2, we explained to Tyler he just needed to be calm and a little patient, which he did, he used the entire race to cruise with the top 5 and on the white flag he put the hammer down to get in front and get 1st place.
Race 3 had Tyler starting crossed up and sideways into another bike putting him in second to last place, he spent the rest of the race working through the field to get back to 6th.
Day 2 almost didnt happen as Tyler's coughing kept everyone up all night and he managed 2-3 hours sleep at the most, we opted to call it off but Tyler demanded he finished.
Look-lap 1 ruined Tylers day, another rider had crashed out in front and someone chose to run out in front of Tyler sending Tyler over a bank head first, twisting his neck, braking his front brake and the clips on his boot.
Race 4 was held up whilst we got Tyler and his bike sorted, unfortunately he was now to finish the day with limited brakes but he would not give up, finishing race 4 cruising he managed 4th.
Race 5 Headache, sore neck scoffing a crunchy bar, Tyler told mum "Just one more mum, then I'll have a sleep", 5th place cemented Tyler a 5th overall for the weekend.
We are all so very proud of Tyler's resolve as he made his own choices and showed us how much he loves his Motocross!
Blue Moon BT trophy Day Maddix Park 23 September 2012
Was a great day, great weather, great track conditions, Tyler and the kids had a lot of fun, "was cool racing the big bikes" Tyler said.
Fewer kids in the Trail classes meant we combined them with the intro 50mx, which worked out great as Tyler was pushed around the mini track by the bigger Trail bikes, he managed to beat all three classes in 3 of the races but a couple of crashes and the complete loss of his front brake in the last race meant he could'nt get all 5 wins, however Tyler made the choice to complete race 5 even though his front brake failed within minutes of starting and having ended up and over one of the higher berms!, we all wondered why he was riding the way he was in that last race!
It shows his determination and confidence has grown a lot in his first year of racing.
Canterbury MX Champs 9th September 2012
Tyler had a great weekend at the Canterbury MX champs, up against 11 bikes, the rules were not very clear on the registration form so Tyler ended up racing against 4 bigger KTM SX50 and the remainder in the correct size mini bike, he was a little disappointed having to race the bigger bikes but I think it worked out better because he raced his little ass off and performed his best riding yet.
Tyler raced 8 12min + 1 lap races, 4 on saturday and 4 on Sunday, after race 3 on saturday he needed a nap and I had to wake him up for race 4.
On Sunday he was full of beans and riding his bike as fast as it could go and it was great to watch, he was clearing big table tops and jumping doubles that his bike could hardly handle, but he was keen to secure the second place trophy as the 3rd and 4th placed bikes were always pushing hard behind.
In the end Tyler was extermely proud of himself as were Scotty and I as he won the 2nd place trophy on a non-level playing field.
The best part is Tyler gets to race 1st place next month in the Mini MX Nationals on the same size bikes!

Race Report: Central MX Series Rotorua 5th August 2012
Tyler was winning his first race when, unfortunately, his bike just stopped. Dad broke the kick start trying to get it going again, and the rest, including a melted spark plug cap, was history.
As Tyler himself said, "This is the worst day ever !" He’s feeling a lot happier now, however, having just picked up a new 2013 KTM 50SX!
Race Report: Taupo 24th June 2012
Tyler had a great day, we solved his bike problems and he had good starts, we had pre-race discussions about not getting tangled up with the other riders, taking wider lines at higher speed and using all of the track.
He managed to get in front quick and stay there to win all races and due to some of the other fast riders crashing, he didn't have to work too hard to win his races. He was buzzing all day and didn't go to sleep until late!
