2 Kinds of Bike Control

Tokoroa MX & Tauranga Trials

Bike control featured in 2 events held during last week's relatively sunny (for a change) weekend. Control plus a certain amount of speed was required at the Tokoroa MX track for their club round.

However, the trials bikes competing in, over and around obstacles in the creek and bush at Madddix Park needed control full stop.

Tokoroa

The South Waikato Club welcomed  MX riders to the Tokoroa track.

It was a freezing day but Lee Ormsby (pictured above) topped the points in all three races in the 13-16 years 85cc class and finished 6th, again on his 85cc, in the 12=16 year 125cc class with two 5ths and a DNF. He DNFed a couple of laps before the end because, with double classes, he had just worn himself out.

The 125 class was won by Isaak Moore ahead of Katikati's Garth Amrein (3/2/2) and Tauranga's Aaron Wiltshier. Aaron is still easing himself back into competition and is still a bit cautious about the Tokoroa track, the scene of his 4 shoulder injuring big crashes.

Brendon and Roydon White were active in the senior races.  In the Senior A class, Brendon (6/5/5) finished 5th for the day with Roydon (5/1/DNF) in 6th position.  In the Senior Open, Brendon had a 2/2 result, Roydon a 1/DNS, and Gavin Clements a 4/DNS while Garth Amrein won one of the races.

Numbers were perhaps a little low. The points results do not reflect the actual number of riders as many were out racing for fun, not for the points.

Tauranga Trials:  Mike Gundry Report

Click here for the results for last weekend's round of the BOP Trials Champs held at Maddix Park in Tauranga. Unfortunately someone forgot to clip their cards hence the penalties.

There was a large turnout of riders for an excellent days riding. Big thanks to team Shilton for marking out new additions to existing sections and thanks to Shelley for the use of the land. All grades were catered for with appropriately tough sections for the A grade and lots of challenges for the others with roots, banks and river stones that had inconveniently shifted since last year.

I would like to mention that our 2 Woman riders Gabby Gundry & Lisa Shilton are heading to Australia.  Gabby leaves this Friday to compete in the Australian Women’s Cup event to be held in Canberra on the 10th of July 2011, Then she will be joined by Lisa to attend a 3 day FIM training camp in Sydney the following week. The training camp is with the current and 10 times world trials champion, Laia Sanz from Spain, an absolute legend and probably the most consummate female off road rider in the world. Apart from her unequalled trials exploits, Laia has participated in the 2010 Women’s Enduro World Champs achieving a very respectable third place after only participating in four of the six races. In 2011 she also competed in her first ever Dakar Rally, winning the women’s section and finishing an astonishing 39th overall.

Here's wishing them both well as this is an opportunity not to be missed being so close to home

A special thanks to Shelley Dean who donated the trials fee back to the girls to assist with their costs.
