Congratulations to Gabrielle Gundry, better known as Gabby, who has just been selected to represent New Zealand at the Oceania Trials Championship in Melbourne, Australia.
This is an annual 2 day event which alternates each year between New Zealand and Australia. In 2010 it will be held over Easter on 3rd & 4th April. This year the New Zealand team consists of an Expert rider (Jake Whittaker) Wellington, a Masters rider (Warren Laugesen) Levin, a Senior Woman (Stephanie Downs) Christchurch and a Junior Woman (Gabrielle Gundry) Tauranga.
Australia will select riders in each class of equal abilities to pit against our team for top honours to win the Oceania Cup.
Gabby has been a Tauranga MCC member for the last 2 years joining up with her father who has been a member for about 12 years.
She has been riding trials competitively for about 2 ½ years. Last year was the first year she rode all the North Island Championship rounds, the highlight being when she won the last round in Hamilton in the Junior class. She also rode the New Zealand Champs for the first time, where she finished 5th in the Juniors. She would like to point out that the Junior grade is for under 17’s, and she is the only female in this class.
The first BOP Trial and BBQ for the year is being held on February 7th at the Pattie's.
