Latest Report:  Tokoroa  Round 5  4th September 2011

When we got to the track, Dad and I went for a walk to have a look and find some lines, Track looked good, but it hadn’t been groomed that well

12/16YRS 125cc

Practice

I had a good practice. I went out first so I could have a look at my lines.  By the time the 1st lap had finished, I was in front.  2 other riders passed me,  so I tried to stay on their tail, to see their lines.

1st Race

I got an average start.  I was 7th around the 1st corner. I knew I had to push hard to catch them.  I pushed hard for the whole race & got 3rd in that one.  I was happy with my speed but my fitness let me down a bit

2nd Race

I got a good jump out of the gate, 4th around the corner.  I pushed hard as I wanted to stay with the other guys. I was making a lot of mistakes, but I kept pushing. I stayed upright but only just.  I finished 4th

3rd Race

Before the 3rd race Dad had a chat with me and told me to stop thinking about racing and concentrate on riding smooth and flowing my corners.   He said “don’t worry about the other guys,  they have all been training hard for the Aussie Nationals and you have only done 9hrs of riding in the last 5 months and you are only 2 seconds a lap slower. Keep your chin up and have some fun”

I had a good start,  3rd around the hole shot corner.  I just thought about having fun.  It worked.  I stayed with them for 7 laps. They were all just in front of me, and then I ran out of steam. I finished 3rd in that one. I was a lot happier with my ride.

I finished 2nd overall for the day.

I need to work on my fitness, but my speed is good considering how long I have been back on my bike.

My bike went really well. I am really enjoying the Yamaha.

Latest Report:  Whakatane  Round 1  13th March 2011

We got to the track, it looked good, they had put a lot of water on it on Saturday so it was wet but not too bad as they had ripped the track, it looked like it would rut up nicely.  I rode the A Grade 125- 250cc junior/ 2nd class Junior Open.

Practice: We were the 3rd practice, I went 1st to see how fast I could go, I wanted to see if I could keep up with my nemesis, I did & I was stoked, the track was cool heaps of ruts already ,it was a bit slippery in places but fun, I was really looking forward to this

1st Race junior open: A great start, I got the whole shot, I pushed hard to extend my lead, which I did.My bike was handling really well, thanks to Scobbie and I was loving my new Pirelli front tyre that Paul had sent me to try. I won that one.

2nd Race A grade : I got another great start, hole shot, I pushed hard to stay in front, on the 2nd lap I made a small mistake and over cooked a corner, I lost 1st I pushed hard to stay with him, which I did, I finished 2nd for this race, I was happy with that

3rd Race Junior open: I had a shocking start, I got stuck in the gate and left last, I pushed hard to catch up, by the 4th corner I was in 3rd I caught 2nd and was going to pass him when he lost control of his bike on a large braking bump, his rear wheel took out my handle bars and I went down, hard, by the time I got up and going again I was last again, I pushed hard but I only managed to work my way up to 7th This is where I finished, I was a little disappointed

4th Race A grade :  I had a great start I got the hole shot again, by the 2nd corner I was in 2nd I pushed hard to stay with him which I did, I am really happy that I can now match my nemesis’s speed, as the last time we meet I was 4 seconds a lap slower than him, now we are very close speed wise,

5th race A grade : 5th and final race, I got the hole shot again, by the 6th corner I was in 2nd the track was really rough now, so I thought I would take it easy on this race so not to get hurt, I finished 2nd for that race.

It was a good day

Thanks Scobbie for all the work you have done on my bike it handles awesome and goes really well,

I would just like to say a big thanks, to Paul and all the team at NWA for all the support, without you guys I wouldn’t be doing as well as I am so thanks

Then the rain came.

 1st Race A grade

I got a shocking start dropped my clutch way to quick on the concrete start gates, I was 2nd to last around the 1st corner, I knew I had to push  hard, but the track had turned to slush, I put my head down, by the end of the 3rd lap I was 5th, I kept pushing  by the time the white flag was out I was in 3rd 1 more lap to go I kept pushing but I couldn’t catch the other 2.  I finished 3rd for that race

I caught and passed him with 4 corners to go, I finish 3rd for that race

Then the sun came out, the track started to dry out

3rd Race A grade

I had another average start, it just wasn’t my day for starts8th around the 1st corner, but in some ways It might have been a good thing as it was making me push hard, I had 2 laps to go I caught 1 to put me in 2nd but the leader was well gone, so I finished in 2nd

4th race junior open

I had an average start 9th around the 1st corner I pushed hard by the 4th lap I was in 3rd bike was handling awesome, the track had dried out and I was having fun, I caught and passed 2nd place with 1 lap to go so I finished 2nd

5th race A grade

5th and final race, Dad suggested to me to try and start in 3rd gear just to see if that helps my starts, it did I got the hole shot I pushed hard, as I wanted to win this one, I lost the lead in the 2nd lap I was getting pretty tired at this stage so I backed off to finish in 2nd   It was a good day apart from my starts; I will have to do some work on these

It was good to be back on my bike, and doing what I love

It was Whakatane`s last round, so we stayed for prize giving, I wasn’t sure where I would finish up as I had missed 1 round. Due to injury

To my surprise I finished the season 2nd for junior A Grade 125- 250cc and 2nd in the Junior Open so I was really happy

Thanks Scobbie for all the work you have done on my bike it handles awesome and goes really well,

I would just like to say a big thanks, to Paul and all the team at NWA for all the support, without you guys I wouldn’t be doing as well as I am so thanks

I walked around the track to find some new lines the track looked really fast

12/14YRS 125cc

Practice: I went out 1st to try the lines that I had looked at, I went through the saw dust 3 times on my 1st lap it felt good, the track was smooth and fast

1st Race : I had a great start ,I got the  hole shot, I rode hard, I kept the lead for 2 laps, i lost 1 place in the 3rd lap, still pushing hard I finished 2nd but 1st in the points as the gut that won wasn’t using a transponder

2nd Race : I got another great start hole shot again, i was going well I had a slight bobble and lost 1st,but I pushed hard to stay in 2nd this is where I finished, although once again the other guy wasn’t transpondered  so I finished 1st in the points.

3rd Race : I got another great start hole shot again, I pushed hard i stayed there for 3 laps, until I had a crash, I got up but I couldn’t lift my bike up as my shoulder was sore, by the time my dad got to me I was last, I got back on but I couldn’t ride fast as my shoulder was really sore.

I got back to the pits and I couldn’t move my shoulder, and then I started being sick.

Mum took me to the hospital; I have broken my Collar Bone and got Concussion, so I will be out for about 4 weeks

I finished 1st overall for the season at Taupo

Tokoroa was on Sunday the same weekend but I couldn’t make it, I was winning the series there, but because I didn’t race I finished their series in 2nd place, so still a good result

Tokoroa  Round 4 Race Report 1st August 2010

When we got to the track i went for a walk to have a look and find some lines, they had done a lot of work, Track looked great

12/16YRS 125cc

Practice: I had a good practice, i went out last just so i could have a look at lines, by the time the 1st lap had finished i was in front , 2 of the other class passed me so i tried to stay on their tail, to see their lines

1st Race : I got a great start I was1st to the corner and 2nd around it. I pushed hard for the whole race, ending up winning my class, there were 2 people in front of me but they were in the 250 four stroke class, i was stoked

2nd Race : I got a great jump out of the gate 1st to the corner, i just started to turn the corner when 1 of the 250s came slamming into me, they took me out, by the time i got up and got my bike started i was last and angry, i took off pushed hard ( too hard ) i then had a big crash in the whoops, it took me a bit to get my breath back, Dad had a chat with me telling me to think and don’t worry about the race just go and finish,  practice my corner speed. Which i did, i finished 7th in my class for that race

3rd Race : I had a good start 3rd around the hole shot corner, i knew if i pushed hard i could stay there or even get some places, the race went well i made a couple of little mistakes, which let the leaders gap me, but i held my position to finish 3rd so i was real happy

Taupo Round 3  Race Report

We got to the track it looked great, but it was very wet and soft in places.

12/14YRS 125cc

Practice: Practice went well, the track was fast in some places but the 1st saw dust section, was water logged and hard to get through; it just sucked all the power out of the 125s

1st Race :I got a great start, I was 4nd around the hole shot corner, buy the end of the 1st lap I was in 5th I wasn’t feeling good on my bike for some reason and I just kept making mistakes, I didn’t lose any more positions, so I finished 5th in that race I was a bit disappointed, the guys that got 1st and 3rd didn’t have transponders so I finished 3rd for points

2nd Race : I got a great start 3rd around the hole shot corner, I dropped back 1 place to finish 4th, 2 of the other riders didn’t have transponders so I finished 2nd in the points

3rd Race : had another great start 3rd, I pushed hard, by this time the track was a mess, it was all just slus,h hidden ruts and water everywhere, I finished 3rd in that race, but 2nd in the points

I finished 2nd overall in the points for the day, so I was pretty happy

Race report           Taupo Rnd 2   30.5.10

We got to the track it looked great, it looked fast, I was looking forward to racing

12/14YRS 125cc

Practice: I went out the front this time just to see if I could stay with the fast guys, and see their lines, it was good, the track was really fast

1st Race : I had a shocking start 2nd to last around the 1st corner, I knew I had a lot of work to do, I pushed hard and finished 6th

2nd Race : I got an ok start I was around the 1st corner in 8th place I pushed hard I worked my way up into 3rd by the end of the race that was a better result

3rd Race : I had another shocking start 3rd to last around the 1st I needed to push hard, I worked my way up to 5th I was going alright, and then for some reason as I went over a jump my back wheel locked up, it took me ages to get going again, but something wasn’t right with the bike it was surging, I finished that race in 9th.

We didn’t have a great weekend, but I came home in one piece.

We had the Battle of the Clubs on the Saturday, I was really looking forward to that. I qualified 4th.  My 1st race I crashed on the 2nd lap and ripped the carburettor of the engine, so I had a DNF.  The 2nd race my front wheel bearing collasped, making it really hard to ride as the front was all over the place

I would just like to say a big thank you to you and all the team for all the support. Kurt

Race Report :  Whakatane Round 2   May 2010

We got to the track it looked cool. It had been raining for the last few days and they had ripped the track. It was slushy in some places but others were looking real cool.

A Grade 125- 250cc junior/ 2nd class Junior Open

Practice: We were the 3rd practice, I went last so I could have a good look at the track.  The track was cool - heaps of ruts already ,it was nice and sticky, I was really looking forward to this.

1st Race A grade : I got a shocking start, dropped my clutch, way to quick on the concrete start gates, I was 2nd to last around the 1st corner, I knew I had to push  hard, I put my head down, by the end of the 2nd lap I was 5th, I kept pushing  by the time the white flag was out I was in 2nd 1 more lap 1 more rider I knew I could do it, I caught him and passed him with 4 corners to spare,  so I finished 1st for that race

2nd Race junior open : I got an ok star, I was around the 1st corner in 10th place, by the end of the 1st lap I was in 4th, I knew I could win this one if I pushed hard, by this time there were some really deep ruts and I was loving it, 2 laps to the end and I was in 1st. This is where I finished.

3rd Race A grade : I had a shocking start again, 3rd to last around the 1st corner, I wasn’t having a good day on starts, but in some ways it might have been a good thing as it was making me push hard, by the last lap I was in 3rd , the other 2 bikes where just in front of me, I knew I could get them, I passed one over jump 4, the other one I blocked past on the 2nd to last corner to finish 1st

4th race junior open : It started to rain, 5mins before my race started, by the time it started, it was pouring down, but also Scobbie had brought my practice bike with new suspension in it, different from my race bike as we are doing a lot of work trying to get our suspension perfect. I had an average start, 9th around the 1st corner, I pushed hard, by the 4th lap I was in 3rd , bike was handling awesome, I laid it over too much in a rut and dropped it in the mud, it took me a while to get it up, I finally got it up I was back in 9th now, I tried to push hard but I could hardly see a thing through my goggles, as they were all fogged up and covered in mud, I managed to get back 3 places to finish 6th

5th race A grade : I got another bad start, the track was a mess, slippery and sloppy, ruts everywhere, I pushed hard, as I wanted to win this one, I got to the front by the 2nd to last lap, I pulled a bit of a gap then slowed down making sure I didn’t fall off, I finished 1st

It was a good day apart from my starts; I will have to do some work on these.

Thanks Scobbie for bringing my other bike, and all the work you have done on it, it’s now better than my race bike  I would just like to say a big thanks, to Paul and all the team at NWA for all the support. Kurt
