Primary/ Intermediate School MX 2014

Some of the riders were regular racers, others were more used to recreational riding but all the kids competing at the Primary and Intermediate School MX in Rotorua enjoyed their very intensive race morning on Saturday.  So did their parents because, fortunately, the forecast storm, rain and wind held off until the races were completed.  The organizers very sensibly chose to split the classes between the main and the mini track so the action was pumping doubly fast.

Omokoroa Number 1 School topped the table and is now the new Primary & Intermediate MX champion school. Ronan and Wyatt Lett(3rd & 4th in the 5-8 Yrs Trail 50cc), Shelby Catley (20th 85cc 11-12 Yrs), Dylan Tredinnick (10th 85cc 8-10 Yrs) plus David and Connor Smyth and Cameron McGuffie (2nd, 3rd & 8th respectively in the 7-11 Yrs Trail) are all justifiably proud to be part of the winning team and to have contributed to their success.

Two other Tauranga area schools also made the top 10.

The Pyes Pa School team of Otto Blake-Palmer (8th 50cc MX),  Wade Meredith  (3rd 65cc 7-8 Yrs),  Oliver Smith (7th Trail 50cc 5-8 Yrs), Donovan Ward (40th 85cc 11-12 Yrs) and Sam Merdith and Max Blake-Palmer (8th & 26th MX 65cc 8-11 Years) came 6th.

The Tauranga Intermediate School came 9th thanks to the effort and riding skills of their 11-12 year old  85cc riders. Trent Duggan achieved 3rdplace, Xavier Anderson 10th, Alex Fraser-Brown 24th and Adam Molloy 33rd.

Yesterday’s secondary champions, the Tauranga Boys’ College, have good reason to be delighted with these results.  All three schools are feeder schools to the college. The future definitely looks bright for local school MX.

However, you didn’t have to be part of a big team to represent your school.

Jakob Bourne (pictured on the podium at left) was the lone representative from Bethlehem Primary  but did his school proud with a 1st place podium position in the 50cc MX class. A bad start followed by contact with another rider made him cautious in one of his races but  Jakob qualified 3rd fastest, rode consistently, had 2 wins and a 3rd so is really happy with his day.

Sean Callinan lined up in the 8-10 Yr 85cc class for St Mary’s School. He finished 7th overall, enjoyed the racing but was also pretty happy with the social side of the day and the catching up with mates.

Other one man teams included  65cc 9-11 Year riders Sam Cooper (6th for Otumoetai Primary), Jontae Carroll (7th for Papamoa Intermediate), Kristian Crane (11th for Selwyn Ridge Primary) and, in the case of Tori Cooper (37th for Otumoetai Intermediate), a one woman team.

Brothers Quinn and Kyan Loomans flew the colours of Otamarakau School gaining respectively 5th in the MX65cc 7-8 Yrs and 9th in the 85cc 8-10 Yrs.
