Tomac Coasts, but Musquin Gets the Overall
Click here for highlights. As the day at Muddy Creek wrapped up with the second 250 moto, Eli Tomac took the early lead and didn't look back. Tomac went 4-1 on the day to finish 2nd overall and collect his second moto win of the season.
Tomac and Roczen remain the only riders to win a moto in 2013
Tomac won the Motorcycle Superstore Holeshot and remained untouched, while Ken Roczen, the current points leader and Moto 1 winner, was 10th out of the gate and had to claw his way up through the top ten. Roczen managed to find a way to pass Justin Bogle, Blake Baggett and finally Zach Osborne late in the race, but Baggett rebounded to charge ahead and pass Osborne and Roczen to finish 3rd.
Marvin Musquin finished 2nd and scored his second career overall win in the process. Had Roczen been able to hold off Baggett at the end of the race, he would have taken his second overall win of the season but instead got leapfrogged by Musquin and Tomac and had to settle for 3rd overall. Musquin finished a strong 2-2 on the day, and the Red Bull KTM team keeps rolling along. The 2-2 snapped a string of four straight motos to start the season where Musquin finished 4th.
Musquin becomes the 3rd overall winner in the season's first three races, despite not winning a moto
Zach Osborne finished 5th and Justin Bogle 6th, followed by Jason Anderson, Martin Davalos, Blake Wharton, and Jeremy Martin.
With Roczen and Tomac going 1-4 and 4-1, the difference in the 2013 point standings remains unchanged between the two, with Roczen still narrowly ahead by 6 points, 138-132.
Baggett had a 3-3 finish for the day, improving on his 9-5 finish at Thunder Valley but still not in the top form we saw from him last year.
Baggett and Roczen went back and forth, with the defending champ eventually claiming 3rd place for good
Cooper Webb followed up his 5th place finish in Moto 1 by finishing outside of the top 10 in 15th. He's come out strong in Moto 1's this year but has lost steam each week going into the second race of the day. Webb finishes this day 10th overall going into High Point.
