World Championship MX GPs take on a new character this weekend with a brand new purpose-built circuit in the inner arena of Germany’s famed Lausitzring.

The temporary track has been designed to deliver the same exciting character as the renowned Daytona circuit.

Some 15,000 cubic meters (more than 1,000 truckloads) of dirt have been transported to create the temporary 1500-meter track under the guidance of the Lausitzring technical staff, track designers and other experts.

The workforce of 45 has manoeuvred the colossal mountain of earth into place with an impressive lineup of earth moving equipment. The arena character of the track, built to capitalise on the existing circuit tribunes, will provide the perfect setting for the current title chases in MX1 & MX2.

The weekend also offers something special for fans of home town hero, Germany's Ken Roczen. Thanks to a cooperation between event organisers and KTM, race fans attending the German GP can watch the German star and current 250-class points leader racing via live satellite link on Saturday night.

A giant screen will deliver races straight from the ninth round of the Lucas Oil Pro MX championship in Spring Creek, Millville Minnesota as Roczen fights to extend his narrow one-point lead.

NB: Rotorua's John Phillips will be racing at Lausitzring this weekend.

After a short summer break the FIM Motocross World Championship is ready to celebrate the thirteenth Grand Prix of the season in the permanent facilities of the well-known German track of Lausitzring.

A lot of expectations have been generated around the German Grand Prix not only because the championships are getting to the end of the season, but also because the track has been built on the asphalt track of Lausitzring and the paddock, the media and the fans will be able to use all the permanent facilities of the circuit, including the grand stand giving the spectators the best view of the track.

More than 20.000 cubic meters of soil – the equivalent of more than 1.000 truck loadings – have been used to built up the Circus Maximus track where Antonio Cairoli and Jeffrey Herlings will try to extend their points lead and get closer to obtain another World Title. During the same weekend the fourth round of the EMX125 European Championship will also be celebrated at Lausitzring, as well as the first round of the Honda EMX150 series.

MX1
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli has taken some days off to recuperate from the three Grand Prix in a row and he is now almost 100% recovered from his knew injury and he is fully focused on the German Grand Prix. The Italian is looking forward to racing the new track of Lausitzring and try to go 1-1 as he did in Finland a couple of weeks ago.

The second position in the point standings is still for Gautier Paulin even if he has missed the podium in the last three Grand Prix. The Kawasaki Racing Team rider is 99 points away from Cairoli and Clement Desalle is just nine points behind the French, so Paulin has been training hard to be back on the podium and keep the second position in the championship.

Rockstar Energy Suzuki World’s Clement Desalle has been very consistent in the last Grand Prix and he is really close to move up to the second positions of the point championship. The Belgian rider has also taken some rest but this week he is back on his training routine to be able to fight for what it would be his second overall victory of the season.

His compatriot Ken De Dycker has also been racing for the top three positions in the previous Grand Prix, but in Finland he missed the podium for three points after finishing 3-6. The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider has recently admitted that he tries to have fun on his KTM at every single race, but with five Grand Prix to go he will give his best to finish among to top three riders of the MX1 class – at the moment De Dycker is fifteen points away from Desalle.

Rockstar Energy Suzuki World’s Kevin Strijbos is travelling to Germany with the good feeling of having finished on the podium in the last Grand Prix. The experienced Belgian rider had not been really lucky before Finland, but Strijbos is determined to repeat his performance this weekend and finish among the best MX1 riders of the German Grand Prix.

Tommy Searle keeps on improving every weekend and he is now twenty-eight points behind Strijbos. The Belgian rider has a comfortable advantage over Searle, but he knows that the British rider will do his best to enter the top five from now until the end of the season. Jeremy Van Horebeek missed again the podium in Finland, but his feeling with the bike are really good and his lap times are among the best ones in MX1. This weekend the Belgian will try again to have two good starts and obtain what it would be his maiden podium in the main class.

It will be a special Grand Prix for Max Nagl who will be racing in front of his home fans this weekend. The German rider has not had a very consistent season, but in several occasions he has proved that he has the speed and the talent to fight for the victory. This weekend Nagl will be fully motivated and he will try to hand his first podium of the season to all the German fans who will travel to Lausitzring this weekend.

Rui Gonçalves and Davide Guarneri are both struggling with small injuries, but as usual they will give their best to finish among the top ten. Currently, Gonçalves is ninth in the point standings and Guarneri is tenth.

Steven Frossard, who had pins inserted in the two fractured metatarsals after the Finnish Grand Prix, will not take part in the German Grand Prix and Milko Potisek will replace the injured French rider.

MX2
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings is very excited to race this weekend in Germany in order to add his thirteen Grand Prix victory in a row and break Stefan Everts’ record. The Dutch rider is focused on his main goal which is winning all the Grand Prix of the season and obtaining his second FIM MX2 World Title – the same number of titles as his compatriot and former rider John Van den Berk.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jordi Tixier is currently second in the championship, but he is not very satisfied with his previous results. The French rider has managed to finish on the third step of podium in the last three Grand Prix, but he has always made some mistakes in one of the races which have made him give it all to recover and move up to the top three. Tixier admitted that he needs to be more focused during the first heats in order to avoid making mistakes and race as close as possible to his teammate Herlings.

The third position of the FIM MX2 World Championship is still for José Butrón, whose consistent results help him to be forty points ahead of Christophe Charlier. The KTM Silver Action rider is travelling to Germany after winning another round of the Spanish National Championship, so he is now ready to race for another podium finish to secure his third position in the FIM MX2 World Championship.

Monster Energy Yamaha’s Christophe Charlier was on the podium during the French and Swedish Grand Prix, and his strong 1-3 result in Uddevalla made him move closer to the third position of the championship. However, the French rider finished far from the top three in Latvia and Finland and he is back again 40 points behind Butrón. Charlier has the potential to be fighting for a podium finish at every weekend, so he might be able to enter the top three if he is able to ride consistently in these last five Grand Prix of the season.

Standing Construct KTM’s Glenn Coldenhoff was again racing among the top MX2 riders in Finland, but fortune was not on his side. After dominating the qualifying race and finishing second in the first heat on Sunday, Coldenhoff crashed in the second race and his KTM had a mechanical problem which forced him to retire. The Dutch talented rider will try once again to finish on the podium this weekend and gain some ground with Charlier who is seventeen points ahead of him.

Dean Ferris had one of his best weekends of the season in the last Grand Prix by finishing second overall thanks to his 2-2 result. The Australian rider is currently sixth in the MX2 standings, thirteen points behind Coldenhoff. Jake Nicholls is seventh and Alessandro Lupino is eighth.

Max Anstie will have an extra motivation this weekend, as his team is based in Germany and he would love to hand them a good result at Lausitzring. Although the British rider is feeling good, he has been struggling during the whole season to finish on the podium and at the moment he is ninth in the championship.

Instead, Petar Petrov has obtained very solid results in the previous Grand Prix and he is now tenth in the point standings. The Bulgarian rider is still 31 points behind Anstie, but he will keep giving his best to finish among the top ten by the end of the season.
