Spot James Scott
Honda Training Camp in Spain
You shouldn't be able to spot him as James Scott is down in the Hawkes Bay currently winning the 13-16 Years 85cc class at the New Zealand Junior MX Champs. His name, however, is on the list of confirmed riders who will compete in the 2016 Honda 150 European Championship which begins in Germany on May 7th.
This weekend, 23-24 April, sees youngsters from across Europe head to Spain for the pre-season training camp of the Honda 150 European Championship, where they will spend time getting to know the Honda CRF150Rs, receive expert guidance and meet their 2016 rivals for the first time.
Joining the training camp to help nurture these aspiring racers will be Tim Gajser (Honda Gariboldi’s 2015 MX2 World Champion), Jean-Michel Bayle (HRC Sporting Manager) and Kyle Smith (winner of last weekend’s Assen WorldSSP race). All will be on hand to provide advice and answer any questions that the young riders may have.
Throughout the two days at the Albaida track in Spain, the riders will receive expert guidance and training in riding technique and bike control and undergo physical and functional evaluations, sports psychology tests and a medical assessment from FIM Europe experts. It will also give the riders a chance to learn the CRF150R under the tutelage of triple British MX champion and Series Coach Gordon Crockard.
In a repeat of the last year, due to over subscription, there will be a selection-process throughout the weekend for the remaining places in the 2016 Honda 150 European Championship season. The championship hopefuls who are invited to the training camp will be assessed for speed, race craft and potential by Crockard, Davy Dousselaere (Honda Motor Europe Off-Road Manager), Gajser, Bayle and Smith.
The riders who prove their performance potential will join those who already have a confirmed place in the series in Teutschenthal, Germany (7-8 May) for the first round of the 2016 season.
The winner of the 2016 Honda 150 European Championship will receive a Honda-supported ride aboard a Honda CRF250R in the EMX250 championship in 2017, providing a unique and valuable springboard to their careers.
