The Grand Prix of Benelux marked the seventeenth and final destination on the FIM Motocross World Championship Calendar. Lierop was the perfect place to end the season with a bang, as the gruelling sand circuit left for unpredictable results.

Shaun Simpson stunned everyone when he won race one and went on to take third in race two for his first ever MX1 GP race win and victory. Taking his position as the runner up was Rockstar Energy Suzuki World’s Kevin Strijbos with his two second place finishes while Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli rounded out the MX1 top three with a fourth in race one and a win in race two. In the MX2 “The Bullet” Jeffrey Herlings, despite a broken Scapular, battled through the pain to prove once again he is the king of sand with yet another double victory. Bud Racing Kawasaki’s Dylan Ferrandis is not known for his sand riding skills, but went on to surprise everyone when he took a second in race one and third in race two for second overall. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jordi Tixier used his fourth and third place finished to take third overall.

Shaun Simpson became the first Scotsman to win a MX1 Grand Prix since Billy Mackenzie in 2007 in Japan. Great moment for the Scot. Also Jeffrey Herlings put on another great performance to win MX2.
