Lamont Slips Down MX2 Standings
Australian MX Champs 2014
A freak injury suffered
while laying in bed on the eve of the fifth round of the Monster Energy MX
Nationals as seen MX2 championship contender Kayne Lamont slip from second to
fifth in the championship standings.
Heading
into the weekend Lamont sat in second position in the championship race, just
12 points behind series leader, Serco Yamaha's Luke
Clout.
Unfortunately
for the New Zealander leading down in his bed the night before the race,
re-aggravated an injury he sustained to his collarbone as well as causing
damage to his armpit and pectoral area.
The
Husqvarna backed rider tried his best to race through the pain on Sunday,
however a crash in the second moto caused further damage leaving him to finish
the round out in X spot and down in 5th place in the championship standings,
some 37 points behind Clout.
“I was
getting down into bed the night before, and I leaned down on my elbow on my
broken collarbone side, which jarred my armpit and my pec area." Lamont
explained. "I was laying in bed rolling around in pain!
"I
battled away with it all day, but in the second I had a crash which completely
stuffed it. It’s weird that something stupid like that destroyed my day.
"The
track was amazing, but I was in no condition to ride it. Lamont will now use the five week
break in the series to continue healing and is confident he can still push for
the 2014 MX2 title.
"I'm fifth overall in the championship now, 37 off the lead, and 27 off
second." Lamont continued. "It’s a bit of a kick in the guts for
sure, but I’ve got to look past it - if it would have been Appin hard pack it
would have been fine.
"We were doing some figures last night and we reckon I can chase it down.
These next two rounds that are coming up are very similar to home," he
concluded.
