GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac scored his third 450 SX win of the year in New Jersey, finishing more than 10 seconds ahead of this year’s title winner, Ryan Dungey of Red Bull KTM. Team Honda’s Cole Seely rounded out the podium.

BTO Sports’ Andrew Short has his starts absolutely dialed and New Jersey was no exception, the KTM rider flying to the front for the holeshot. He lost the lead within the first lap, however, Seely and JGRMX’s Weston Peick moving to first and second, respectively, before the end of the opening rotation.

Tomac was back in fifth behind Peick’s teammate, Justin Barcia, while Dungey paced in sixth. Tomac started to rise the ranks immediately, jumping to third by Lap 2 and taking second by Lap 3. Dungey held close to Tomac and moved into third-place during the opening laps. Barcia, on the other hand, steadily lost ground until mid-way through the race when an off ended his day early.

At the front, Seely held steady against Tomac for 10 laps but then Tomac found line and made the pass for the lead. After that, Seely faced heavy pressure from Dungey and a lap later the KTM rider moved ahead of Seely as well for second-place. Neither rider could touch Tomac though, the Colorado native stretching a 12-second gap on his rivals to the checkers.

"The track really broke down out there. I just tried to be as consistent as I could and keep it on two wheels, and I started to close in on Cole [Seely]," said Tomac. "He made a couple mistakes that allowed me to get on his rear fender and I just pulled the trigger in the whoops. One I got out front I was able to just get through lappers and bring it home."

Yoshimura Suzuki’s Blake Baggett fought his way up to fourth-place by the finish, with Short trailing in fifth. RCH Racing’s Broc Tickle held to sixth despite a nasty tumble which saw him flip head over heels off the track during the event. TwoTwo Motorsports’ Josh Grant took seventh followed by Team Chiz’s Kyle Chisholm in eighth.

Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin took his sixth 250 SX East victory of the year in East Rutherford, New Jersey, clinching this year’s title in the class. GEICO Honda’s Justin Bogle finished in second-place followed by Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy in third.

Bogle rocketed off the start for the holeshot and early lead, but Musquin trailed close behind in second-place. The two remained in close quarters for over half the race, with Bogle maintaining the front for 10 laps before the KTM ace put together a pass for the lead which stuck. Once at the head of the pack, Musquin opened a few seconds on Bogle to ride home for the win.

"[The championship] feels great and winning the Main Event makes it even better," said Musquin. "Every time you race you want to do good, and today I made it happen. I'm ready to move on and chase some more dreams. It has been great to race alongside Ryan [Dungey] this season with all his success [in the 450SX Class] and it's helped me get better as well. We have a great team at KTM and I'm excited to keep it going."

Savatgy would push up from fourth in the opening lap to third by Lap 2 while JGRMX’s Jeremy Martin rose up the ranks to fourth by Lap 5. The two battled hard for the final step on the podium through much of the rest of the race. At one point, Martin made a pass on Savatgy but then the Kawasaki pilot answered back with a move that pushed Martin off track for a period. Later, Martin was looking for another go and instead landed a jump too far forward and crashed. He jumped back up and was able to hold to fourth to the checkers, his hope for a podium finish squashed in the off.

Bogle’s teammate, RJ Hampshire, finished the night in fifth followed by Honda pilot Kyle Peters in sixth. Martin’s teammate, Anthony Rodriguez, took seventh followed by Arma Energy’s Mitchell Oldenburg in eighth.
