Matt Moss Continues Perfect 2013 Season in Darwin at ASX Round One.  Gavin Faith starts title defense with a win in Darwin.

Matt Moss has dominated the opening round of the 2013 Terex Australian Supercross Championship in Darwin, NT today in front of a healthy crowd at the Hidden Valley motor-sport circuit.

The Motul Pirelli Suzuki racer who topped the time sheets during practice on Friday, continued his time topping run today, setting the fastest lap in qualifying before going on to win his heat race leading from start to finish.

The recently crowned 2013 Monster Energy MX Nationals MX1 Champion the continued his recent run of fine form, by grabbing the holeshot in the main event and was never headed, controlling the race from start to finish earning himself the championship leaders red plate for round two tomorrow.

It was a double celebration of sorts for Matt Moss, with his twin brother Jake Moss aboard his Campbell Mining Suzuki locking into second spot early in the race, before going on to finish in second position, giving the Moss brothers the perfect 1-2 finish, the first time the duo have managed the feat since the age of 12.

"That win felt really good, I think it is my first ever 450 win in Supercross." Moss stated. "It was a tough evening, it was hot and the track was pretty gnarly but we got the job done.
"I got the hole shot and had my brother behind me so there was a little less pressure with him behind me. It was the first time us two have gone 1-2 in a race," Moss added.

"Myself and Jake are starting to find our stride together and it was a great day, it was good to get the win, I was hoping for a top three so to get the win is a bonus and we will just keep chipping away.

"The guys at Motul Pirelli Suzuki have been awesome and to have Dan Reardon
from Alteregoelite helping us all weekend makes the weekend so easy." Moss concluded.

Jake Moss was equally pleased to see the Moss name taking up the top two spots at the top of the results sheet, though he will be looking for a reversal of the result at round two on Sunday.

"It was good to finish second today," Jake Moss commented after the race. "The heat did not play a factor, I just got a bit of arm pump, I think we all did.

"It was awesome having Matt win and me come second, we have not done that since we were 12 years old at supercross, it was a pretty cool feeling. Matt is a championship contender, he will be there no matter what every weekend.

"I am happy with the result, but not happy with the ride, we can only improve from here," Jake concluded.

Rounding out the podium was two time defending Supercross champion, Jay Marmont. The number one plated Monster Energy Kawasaki pilot got off to a great start, slotting in behind the Moss brothers.

Marmont like the pair of Suzuki riders in front of him never changed position all race, though he did come under pressure from Motorex KTM rider Kirk Gibbs early in the race.

Marmont though held strong and raced to a fine third place finish to get his title defence off to a solid start.

"It feel good to finish on the podium, it has been a tough year for me and the team, the team has really stuck behind me, and we got a result." Marmont stated.

"It is still far from my best I feel," Marmont continued. "I have not run up front for a long time, it was good to run up front and battle with the boys and finish on the podium, it was a positive start to the year.

"I should never really be pleased with third place but I feel it is something that we can build on. 100% my goal is to come out tomorrow and go one or two steps better.

"I hate coming third it is not where I want to be, I have the number one on that bike for a reason," he added.

"My fitness felt good out there today, I have been struggling with a throat cold and asthma this week and I was not sure how it was going to go in that 15 lapper, but it held up ok and my strength felt fine so there is no reason why I can go a full ten tenths tomorrow.

Josh Hill was fast, a good start tomorrow will see him challenge for the win - Credit: Aaryn Minerds.

Finishing in fourth position was American import Josh Hill who made life tough for himself coming out of the first turn near the back of the field.

The Hart&Huntington / InsureMyRide backed Suzuki racer put his head down and made some tough passes on a track that was not easy to pass on and worked his way through the field and in the process showed he is certainly one of the riders to watch tomorrow if he gets out of the start gate a little better

"It was not my best performance," Hill admitted. "We got a bad start mainly due to some clutch issues, we really dont have to many for this weekend and we tried to make the one we had last.

"It was the clutch we used on the press day, the qualifying and the heat race. It was slipping a bit in the main event, it did not get a good bite off the start and by the end of the race I was not going to far.

"We have one new clutch for tomorrow, we will just try to baby that thing through qualifying and the heat race so I can bring it in the main, it is what I should have done today but I got a little ahead of myself being my first race in Australia and I really wanted to do good," an enthusiastic Hill concluded.

CDR Yamaha's Lawson Bopping rounded out the top five. Bopping who did not have the best of starts was another rider who pushed forward in the race and showed some great speed along the way.

Motorex KTM's Daniel McCoy finished sixth after some tough battles with both Hill and seventh placed Weston Peickaboard his Carlton Dry Honda. Motorex KTM's Kirk Gibbs was running fourth early, but after a few big moments, the South Aussie eventually had one he could not save, crashing and relegating him down the field.

Kade Mosig finished in ninth place in his first outing for the CDR Yamaha team, while DPH Motorsport's Sam Martinfinished in 10th after coming from last place on track with a very impressive ride.

Pro Lites

Gavin Faith will continue to run the red plate tomorrow at round two - Credit: Aaryn Minerds

In the Pro Lites main event it was a battle of the big guns with current MX Nationals MX2 champion Luke Styke grabbing the holeshot aboard his Serco Yamaha, with current ASX Pro Lites champion Gavin Faith in tow aboard his Carlton Dry Honda.

Styke looked in control early until a small crash let Faith by for the lead. Styke was able to re-mount in second position but the damage had already been done with the American Faith going on to win the opening Pro Lites race of the season.

"It is awesome to get the win." Faith stated. "Practice and qualifying did not really go the way I wanted it to, we are struggling with the set up a little bit.

"It is getting better, hopefully tomorrow we can fix a couple of things and it will be good," he added.

"The track has blown out a lot, it is weird dirt, it has a lot of rocks in it. It is not my favourite dirt to ride but everybody has to ride the same track.

"I will head back out here and try to do it again tomorrow," Faith concluded.

Luke Styke will be aiming for the top spot tomorrow.

Styke who never likes to lose was a little disappointed to finish on the second step of the podium and will be looking to make up for the result with a race win tomorrow.

"I just crashed while leading so I am a bit disappointed." Styke admitted. "I could not regroup and made a few mistakes after the crash. I was kind of catching him at the end, it was to late by then and I was getting a bit worn out trying to get back in a flow.

"My speed is not a problem it is just a matter of trying to get a flow on and the track does not have much flow at the moment, Hopefully they can change a few things for tomorrow and I can come out and get the win," Styke added.

Rounding out the podium was Privateer KTM racer Dylan Long, who continues to impress after being cut from the Choice Motorspots KTM earlier this year during the motocross season.

Long impressed at the final rounds of the Motocross season and continued his good run of form in Darwin today getting off to a good start and making his way around former Australian Supecross champion Ryan Marmont to score a great podium finish.

"I felt pretty good out there," Long comment. "I got a good start then got buckled up a bit before the triple and had to double it and few people got past.

"Other than that I fought back to third and was coming on strong at the end.

"I am working on my fitness and working on my riding and my skills in Supercross and I am enjoying it. It felt good to come through the field a bit and close down on the leaders, Stykes dominated the whole series in motocross so it feels good to know that all the training has paid off." Long concluded.

Raceline Suzuki's Ryan Marmont only lost the one position during the race, finishing in fourth after a third place start. New Serco Yamaha recurit Luke Arbon has a solid but uneventful first race back on the national stage racing to a fifth place finish.

Kale Makeham who was one of the front runner during both Friday's practice sessions and today's qualifying, did not have the race he was looking for. A bad start aboard his 250SX two stroke seen him in near last place and working his way through the field the entire moto.

TM racing Australia's Nick Sutherland who broke his collarbone less than two weeks again raced through the pain to record a gritty seventh place finish, while supercross newcomer Kayne Lamont also impressed with an eight place finish for Choice Motorsports KTM after a very average start.

Privateer Honda rider Taylor Potter road a strong race to finish ninth, with Wilson's Jet Pilot Racings Luke Wilson rounding out the top ten.

Number one qualifyer Brenden Harrison will be looking to put today behind him. An early race crash followed by another tip over later in the race left the Choice Motorsport KTM racer only able to salvage a twelfth place finish.

Round two of the 2013 Terex Australian Supercross Championship will take place tomorrow, Sunday the 15th of September at the same venue.
