MILLVILLE 450 MOTO 1 REPORT
The sky looked rather gloomy as the 450 riders lined up for the first moto at Spring Creek, but as we know from year’s prior, the weather rarely cooperates here. Regardless, the motos go on. Justin Barcia edged out Josh Grant for the Motorcycle-Superstore.com holeshot. Grant was forced wide, went off the track slightly and lost a few positions. Barcia’s teammate Trey Canard followed in second and Ryan Villopoto was there for third. Villopoto, however, was left behind after being thrown from his bike just before the infamous Millville whoop section. Ryan Dungey and James Stewart were there to pick up the positions, while Villopoto remounted and crossed the finish line outside of the top twenty.
Stewart was able to get by Dungey, and once in third, he set his sights on the Honda Muscle Milk duo of Canard and Barcia. Stewart moved by Canard, but that pass was far from sealing the deal. The two went back and forth over the course of a lap before Stewart put the hammer down and pushed past Barcia for the lead. Meanwhile, Dungey had bike problems and had to momentarily pull of the track, sending him back to 11th. The Honda Muscle Milk riders were able to stick with Stewart, but Barcia got squirrely of the finish-line tabletop and gave up second to Canard. That was all Canard needed to up the ante.
From there, the rain started coming down and an epic battle for the lead between Stewart and Canard had begun. The two riders were using the entire track as they passed each other back and forth for first. Canard must have been feeling it, because he was throwing down some impressive scrubs as he tried to work around Stewart. However, Stewart controlled the lead as the checkered flag came out and it seemed as if Canard had either exhausted his line options or fell into Stewart’s pace. Canard made a late-moto charge as they neared the finish line, but was unable to find an opening. Stewart won his first moto of the season, with Canard and Barcia rounding out the podium. Grant and Dungey rounded out the top five, and Villopoto made an impressive charge all the way back up to sixth.

MILLVILLE 450 MOTO 2 REPORT
James Stewart certainly helped his chances at the overall win by pulling a big lead right form the beginning of the moto. Stewart crossed the Motorcycle-Superstore.com holeshot line with two-to-three bike lengths over Minnesota native Ryan Dungey. Josh Grant moved by Dungey in the first few corners, but suffered a nasty get-off in the Millville whoops that would leave him sitting in last.
Stewart, Dungey, Alessi, Canard and Barcia rounded out the top five after the completion of the first lap. Trey Canard and Justin Barcia made their way around Mike Alessi and began to separate from the field with Stewart and Dungey. Dungey passed Stewart for the lead shortly after, and Villopoto moved up to fifth after getting by Alessi. Villopoto was still had some work to do to catch the top four, but a tip-over sent him further back to sixth place and increased his workload.
Meanwhile, Stewart regained the first place from Dungey and the two went at it, exchanging the lead for multiple laps. Dungey eventually came out on top and started to open up a gap. Stewart was still in position to take home the overall, but there was still a significant portion of the moto left. Barcia and Canard were creeping up on Stewart and threatened his chance at the overall win. Villopoto was also creeping up on the top four to make things interesting—he was a full second faster than the rest of the field at one point.
Barcia disappeared from the equation after crashing in one of the track’s blind spots. Canard then quickly moved up on Stewart and passed him with just three laps left. They repeated their battle from the first moto—this time for second—with the same intensity. On the last lap, Stewart tried to pass Canard on the outside of a left-hand corner, but Canard blocked his attempt. The line Canard used to block Stewart sent him off the track and around the following tabletop. He reentered the track with a few bike lengths over Stewart. Stewart was unable to get back into second place, but third was all he needed to win his first overall this season. Dungey won the second moto for third overall, while Canard’s 2-2 moto scores were good for second.

MILLVILLE 250 MOTO 1 REPORT
For the first time since Freestone in 2010 GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac holds the points lead in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship. Following a 1-1 performance last weekend at the Peterson CAT Washougal National, Tomac closed the gap to within a point of series leader Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen. With Roczen out with a DNF following a hard crash early in the moto, Tomac took full advantage spoiling the homecoming party for MyPlash/Star Racing Yamaha’s Jeremy Martin.
It was GEICO Honda’s Wil Hahn with another Motorcycle-Superstore.com holeshot with Martin, Roczen, Justin Bogle and Marvin Musquin in his rear view. Hahn’s lead was short lived as both Martin and Roczen made their way past the Kansas native. Meanwhile, Tomac was buried around fifteenth after lap one.
Martin had the home crowd on their feet as he garnered the lead—the first time he’s lead in his career. Roczen was pushing the pace behind, but a huge crash right before the sand whoops prematurely ended his charge. Roczen pulled off shortly after. He will try and ride the second moto.
Tomac pounced on the golden opportunity, charging all the way back from outside the top ten to challenge Martin for the lead. The rookie put in a valiant effort, but Tomac proved to be too much down the stretch. With his moto win, Tomac picked up 25 points on Roczen and now has a 24-point lead with seven motos to go. Martin would finish second, with Rockstar Energy Racing’s Jason Anderson taking home third for his first career moto podium.
Justin Bogle, Blake Baggett, Justin Hill, Wil Hahn, Adam Cianciarulo and Darryn Durham would round out the top ten.

MILLVILLE 250 MOTO 2 REPORT
Following a brutal first moto crash that resulted in a DNF and the loss of the 250MX points lead for the first time all season, Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen was firing on all cylinders early in moto two. For the second time on the day GEICO Honda’s Wil Hahn secured the Motorcycle-Superstore.com holeshot but was quickly overtaken by Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Blake Baggett and the aforementioned Roczen. First moto winner Eli Tomac once again got off to a slow start as he rounded the first lap just inside the top ten.
Roczen showed little effects of his first moto crash, applying early pressure on Baggett for the lead. The defending champion held strong early, but Roczen proved to be too strong. Meanwhile, Tomac was laying down blazing lap times, slicing through traffic to pull on to the rear wheel of the leaders. Try as he might, Roczen offered little resistance to the furious charge of Tomac.
Tomac gapped Roczen down the stretch to secure his second moto win of the day and his fourth straight. Roczen would gut out a second place finish with Baggett coming home in third. Tomac now owns the red-plate for the first time since Freestone in 2010.
Marvin Musquin, Jason Anderson, Justin Bogle, Jeremy Martin, Wil Hahn, Zach Osborne and Cooper Webb would round out the top ten.
