Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez leads the way after Friday’s MotoGP practice at Misano, outpacing the competition in both sessions. Marquez’s teammate, Dani Pedrosa, ended FP2 second-fastest 0.033 behind the rookie rider with Yamaha Racing’s Valentino Rossi trailing an additional two-tenths back in third.

“I am happy with how things went today, and how we worked,” said Marquez. “I felt pretty good from the start and found some good reference points; there's only a few places, like on the fast corner, where I still need to make some improvements in order to go faster. I'm running slightly wide onto the astroturf at that point. I hope that we can rectify this tomorrow, keep working well and get in even better shape for the race.”

Marquez logged a total of 22 laps during the afternoon, but posted his best effort relatively early in the proceedings on Lap 9. He logged a number of laps in low 1’34 range after that but none proved able to top the young Spaniard. Prior to Marquez’s ascension to the top-spot, Rossi and teammate Jorge Lorenzo traded position at the head of the pack, each looking for a strong performance this round as it’s the first race weekend with Yamaha’s new seamless transmission.

“We are having some problems to find the best set up on the bike because I felt a little bit worse than the last year's here but we are trying to improve it,” explained Lorenzo. “The new gearbox is working well and I really like it. I’m confident we can go a little faster tomorrow.”

Lorenzo finished the day in fourth position followed by Power Electronics Aspar’s Aleix Espargaro, who staged a stand-out performance to finish fifth-fastest. Go & Fun Honda Gresini’s Alvaro Bautista took sixth followed by Ignite Pramac Racing’s Michele Pirro in seventh. Pirro is substituting for the injured Ben Spies.

Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso ended the day in eighth followed by LCR Honda MotoGP’s Stefan Bradl in ninth. Bradl’s day was interrupted by a mid-session crash in the afternoon, but he was able to remount and log a number of laps after the incident. Tech 3 Yamaha’s Cal Crutchlow rounded out the top-10.

Crutchlow’s teammate, Bradley Smith, also went down during FP2 though he too was unharmed.

Three riders were unable to improve their lap times from FP1 during the afternoon, Dovizioso’s teammate Nicky Hayden, Avintia Blusens’ Hector Barbera and Paul Bird Motorsport’s Yonny Hernandez.
