An arsenal of the worlds best freestyle motocross riders are set to fire up their engines this March, as the inaugural Australian FMX Grand Prix (AFMXGP) event is set to take place in Melbourne’s Albert Park.

The AFMXGP event will take place alongside the opening round of the worlds leading four wheel racing category, the Formula One World Championship.

A number of international riders will take on Australia’s best across each designated discipline, all coming with the intent of capturing the lucrative Grand Prix crown.

The AFMXGP consists of three, completely separate disciplines; FMX, Speed & Style and Best Whip. Riders are not limited to a single division, and have the ability to compete in all three events if desired.

Leading the international contingent will be 4 x X Games gold medallist and a renowned icon in FMX over the past decade, Mike Mason. Mason boasts an illustrious career in the world of FMX, with successful records in both the X Games and Dew Tour competitions. Travelling from Carson City in the United States, Mason will compete in both FMX and Speed & Style events.

“I’ve always loved coming to Australia. When the opportunity came up to compete at this first ever event in Melbourne, there was no way I was going to miss it!

"To be competing alongside the Formula One Australian Grand Prix is a massive opportunity for the sport – so definitely have to thank everyone involved”, commented Mason.

New Zealand wunderkind Levi Sherwood adds to the international firepower, possessing a bag of tricks that often leave his peers in awe. Capturing the Red Bull X-Fighters championship in 2012, Sherwood is no stranger to the winner’s circle, and will look to continue that form in the FMX division come March.

Libor Podmol (Czech Republic), Kyle Demelo (Canada) and James Carter (USA) complete the international line-up.

Podmol and Carter will compete in both the FMX and Speed and Style, whilst Demelo will partake in the FMX contest only.

For the domestic talent, FMX powerhouse Jackson Strong spearheads the Australian charge fresh off a duel event victory at the 2015 AUS-X Open. Strong is renowned for performing insanely difficult tricks, and is set to bring that same intensity to the FMX competition.

31-year-old Cam Sinclair returns to the competition scene following a brief hiatus, with the Melbourne local prepared to showcase his world-class talent during the Speed & Style event. With an elusive X Games gold medal to his name, Sinclair will draw upon his vast experience as he competes for the Speed & Style crown.

Defending X Games Best Whip gold medallist Jarryd McNeil headlines the Best Whip contest, whilst delving into the Speed and Style contest also. Rob Adelberg (FMX), Cheyne Boyd (Best Whip) and Ryan Brown (FMX) complete the comprehensive Australian line-up.

Further riders are expected to be announced in the following weeks.
